Wildlife in Distress
We can’t say enough about the heroes out there fighting these fires! Kristin, with the fire crew fighting the Tyee Ridge Fires, called Forever Wild last week to report a bat in distress. The adult female Long-Legged Myotis had flown into a bathroom at the fire command post and would not leave. When we arrived we found her frightened and dehydrated. A quick dose of Sub-Q fluids and carrying her to a stand of dense trees to hide in was all it took to get her flying again. The bathroom was bat-free and she was back out in the wild. The fires have misplaced so much of the wildlife , and the smoke has overwhelmed many animals. They don’t know where to go to be safe once their home is gone. We are deeply grateful to these firefighters for their commitment to save people, homes, and wild lands. But it shows a tremendous depth of compassion that as busy as these heroes are, as tired and weary as they are, they find time to stop and help a little bat who was frightened. Thank you fire fighters and support staff, this little bat may have had a pup out there, your kindness to her when you are already so burdened is heroic! https://www.fwwr.org
