The Fight for Flight: Healing an Injured Bat at Forever Wild
Cats and bats don't mix well. This older-aged Little Brown sustained a membrane tear in each wing, a fractured metacarpal, and a tooth hole in his head. Even with careful stabilization of the bones, a fractured wing can mean doom to an insectivorous bat. They have to be able to demonstrate a minimum of 10 minutes of sustained flight, with speed, agility and precision in order to be released or they might starve. The head injury complicates the issue, but he is a great eater, is very scrappy, and is, so far, doing well. We will keep you posted.
