Forever Wild was called to free this young fawn who had tangled his foot in a fence. Our volunteers: Ryan, his daughter, and Suzanne and her husband, Ron, went on the rescue as soon as they got the call. They released the fawn from the fence, but his foot was badly fractured, and he could not stand. The fracture was compound, open and bleeding, which means flies and infection if left unbandaged. You can see from the bottom picture that he was in shock from the ordeal and the injury. Fawns this age are highly prone to shock if handled. They will usually suffer from fatal capture myopathy if taken into captivity or handled without sedation. Because he would be very unlikely to survive treatment, there was no choice but to call the sheriff's department to come and put him out of his suffering. This is one of the hardest parts of what we do, but there is a peace knowing he isn't suffering and did not have to die a long and slow death. We are so grateful to our volunteers who go on these sad and difficult cases. https://www.fwwr.org
