A very hard week for this injured goose
For a week now this poor Canada Goose has been dragging a broken wing, with infection already present in the ulcerated bone.. We aren't allowed to rehabilitate Geese and Ducks at the moment due to the Avain Flu, but we are allowed to humanely put down a suffering wild animal. The problem is that there is a jurisdictional issue because he was on federal property at the VA, so we weren't allowed to go on site and put him to sleep without permission from the right channels. Calls were going on daily between DC Dispatch and the VA Police, trying to navigate an unclear bureaucratic path. Finally permission was granted and we were able to put him out of his misery. We never could have done it without Ryan Finlay and Abraham Finlay. Abraham runs faster than a goose, and was able to net him. Its so sad to see a beautiful creature like this die, but not as sad as seeing them suffer. RIP goose, and endless thanks to the Finlays for a great job. We are also grateful to Roseburg Dispatch and the VA Police for all their ongoing efforts to get help for this goose.
